How to Perform a Jump Shot in Pool
Hi, my name is Tony Robles, here at AmsterdamBilliards for About , and I'm going to show you how to shoot a jump shot in pool. Basically, a jump shot is when you jump thecue ball over an object ball or a ball that's blocking you from a potential shot that'sanywhere around the table. Professional players use a different cue forjump shots, it's actually a much shorter cue. A standard cue is anywhere from 5758 inchesto a jump which is 40 inches. And the jump cue I have here today is made by a companycalled Predator Cues, which is the number one cue stick company in the world. And thisstandard cue here weighs about 18 12 ounces,
whereas this one weighs about 6 ounces. Thereason why I use a lighter cue is so that way. When I go at a downward stroke (or downwardangle), I have more acceleration as I'm going forward with the cue stick, therefore increasingthe chances of jumping the cue ball off the playing surface. A jump shot is legal if you strike the cueball in the center or below. Or you can even hit it slightly above the center. But it isillegal to strike the cue ball as low as possible, because now you're no longer hitting the cueball with the tip of the cue stickyou're hitting it with the ferrulewhich is thisarea right here.
So this how you perform a jump shot: again, you line it up, elevate it about a forty five degree angle, move your head closer by bendingthe elbow.one, two, three. And that's how you perform a jump shot. Thanksfor watching, and for more information, please visit About .
